New Pediatric Program Development with Co-Mgt

Share:

A disproportionate share of pediatric services are provided by the 100 or so self-designated children’s hospitals in the United States.  Non-children’s hospitals that want to expand or enhance their pediatric services must engage independent pediatric specialists for program development.

Pediatric specialists aren’t exactly flocking to hospital employment arrangements. Pediatric co-management arrangements are an effective tool for driving new program development with independent providers.

Co-management is an ideal contractual tool for new program development because compensation can be tied to the achievement of specific, pre-defined milestones and targets.  As old milestones are met, the agreement can remain in place, while new milestones are set with amendments to the original agreement.

If you haven’t already identified a pediatric program to develop, here are the estimated counts of U.S. pediatric physician specialists to get your wheels turning.
